After School Program Lends a Helping Hand

Last year, the Park District of Franklin Park installed five beehives on North Park’s rooftop and harvested thirty pounds of honey. This year our established hives produced almost three hundred pounds! With all that honey, we called on some reinforcements to help.

After School Program had the opportunity to assist Staff in jarring the honey. The children were so excited watching the honey drop into their jars. Each child took home a small jar honey as a “thank you” gesture for their assistance.

What is the Park District going to do with all the honey? The honey will be used for giveaways at different Park District events. We will also have different sized honey jars available for purchase at the Community Center front desk. Stay tuned for an announcement on when they go on sale!

All proceeds will go toward the Parks Foundation of Franklin Park. The Parks Foundation provides financial assistance for recreational opportunities for in-district residents dealing with financial hardship. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to play and learn here.
