Junior Lifeguards Learn Skills for a Lifetime

The Pool on Pacific offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity for youth to get a head start on their first job — lifeguarding. Our Junior Lifeguard Program has been introducing 11-15 year old’s to the world of safety and awareness since 2005.

This program takes the time to teach students the knowledge of rescue techniques, pool procedures and CPR and First Aid. The skills learned in the Junior Lifeguard Program will stick with students and help them down the line in not just lifeguarding, but real-life scenarios.

Part of our mission as a Park District is to help participants prepare for their next steps in life. We strive to develop leadership skills in our junior lifeguards, which is why they receive hands-on experience shadowing a real lifeguard. It is our hope that students transition into lifeguards when they turn 16 years old and practice these skills even more.

Valuable skills like First Aid and CPR look great on a resume regardless of what career route one may take. Our staff make it a priority to make sure every participant is learning in a comfortable, safe environment where they can discover their leadership abilities.

At the end of the program the junior lifeguards get to participate in the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Lifeguard games.
