The Park District of Franklin Park is proud to share that solar panels have been installed at the Franklin Park Ice Arena and Center at North Park. This milestone marks a major step forward in the district’s long-term commitment to sustainability and responsible financial management. The panels are fully installed and awaiting inspection and activation to begin generating clean, renewable energy for the facility.
Next, installation crews are working at the Community Center, the next facility to receive solar panels as part of the district-wide energy initiative. Once all installations are complete and operational, the combined systems will significantly reduce the Park District’s reliance on traditional electricity sources while creating lasting cost savings for the community.
When finished, the solar panels across all three facilities will provide:
-
51% of the Community Center’s energy needs
-
43% of the Centre at North Park’s energy needs
-
42% of the Franklin Park Ice Arena’s energy needs
These installations are projected to save the Park District approximately $76,000 in the first year alone, with long-term savings expected to exceed $1.9 million over the next 20 years.
The project continues to be managed by General Energy Corporation of Schaumburg, with T Construction handling AC components and Ecolectric managing DC components.
As the installations continue, we look forward to sharing progress updates and celebrating the positive impact these solar panels will bring to our community for decades to come.
