March Tip: Be Kind to our Planet

At the Park District of Franklin Park, we have implemented many ways to be environmentally friendly. Now, we want to share these tips with you! Once a month, we will share one environmentally friendly tip that will teach you how to be kind to our planet. The first tip we are going to share with our community is how to recycle and the benefits of doing so!

Recycling is the process of converting waste materials that would usually be thrown away, into new materials and objects. At the Park District of Franklin Park, we have multiple recycling bins at our facilities and parks. We encourage staff to recycle as much as they can and inform them of the benefits when they do. Informational sheets are placed above most of our recycling bins, so our staff is aware of what materials should and shouldn’t be recycled. To learn more about what materials can be recycled, check out the image below!

Now that we know what should be recycled, below are some reasons why it is so beneficial. Recycling is good for the environment because it:

  • Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators.
  • Conserves natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals.
  • Prevents pollution and reduces greenhouse gases by reducing the need to mine and process new raw materials.

There are numerous benefits of recycling, and with so many new technologies making even more materials recyclable, with everyone’s help, we can clean up our Earth.
